Formed in 1965 and disbanded in 1972, Jefferson Airplane was one of the most successful, and arguably the best, of the mid-to-late 1960s San Francisco Psychedelic Rock bands.
The core of the group consisted of five wildly different personalities, including vocalist extraordinaire Grace Slick, visionary Paul Kantner, purveyor of Pop perfection Marty Balin, and the powerhouse bass/lead guitar combo of Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen.
Together this diverse group would craft some of the most powerful songs of the era. Their expert ability in fusing mainstream Pop, Rock and left-of-center Psychedelic enabled them to connect with the masses while at the same time remain at the forefront of the counterculture.
This Penn’s Picks Playlist spans the group’s entire career, featuring a combination of hits, obscure gems, live performances, and spinoffs. Get ready to take off and “feed your head!”
