This week the R&B/Soul primary genre category joins Pop at the top spot thanks to the arrival of Natalie La Rose’s Somebody into the Hot 100 top 10.  Both genres currently account for 40% of songs, each.

Additionally, the early (0:02 – 0:19) first chorus occurrence category reenters the chart for the first time in eight weeks, and the one word title category and Republic (label) both hit #1, accounting for 30% of songs, each.

On the flip side, the Dance/Electronic primary genre and inspiration/empowerment lyrical theme categories both drop down to nil for the first time in five weeks due to the departure of Pitbull’s Time Of Our Lives.

Some of the top characteristics defining this week’s top 10 include:

• Retro remains the top influence for the sixth consecutive week, accounting for 60% of songs. Its latest representative is Somebody, which features a mid-1980’s nature ala Whitney Houston.

• Love/relationships is the top lyrical theme for the 31st consecutive week, accounting for 70% of songs.

• The 4:00+ song length category holds onto the top spot for the eighth consecutive week, accounting for 40% of songs.

• The moderately short (0:10 – 0:19) intro length category is #1 for the third consecutive week, accounting for 40% of songs.

• The primarily electric based instrumentation category holds onto the top spot for the third consecutive week, accounting for 50% of songs.
